Flashcards are created on the Translator screen, accessed by tapping 
in the bottom navigation bar.
There are two ways to create a card: 
Translation mode and 
Manual mode. Both save to the same deck and produce the same card object. The difference is in how the back text is filled in.
Before you create
Two things need to be set before you can save a card: a deck and a language pair.
Choosing a deck
The current deck is shown in the header at the top of the screen. Tap it to open the deck selector and choose a different deck, or to create a new one.
The app remembers the last deck you used. When you return to the Translator screen, it restores that deck automatically.
Note
Every card must belong to a deck. If you have not created a deck yet, the deck selector will prompt you to create one before you can continue.
Setting languages
Each card panel has a language, shown as a flag. The left panel is the front of the card (the word you want to learn); the right panel is the back (the translation).
Tap a flag to change the language for that panel. You can also tap the swap icon between the two flags to reverse the pair.
Languages are saved per deck. Once you set them for a deck, the Translator screen restores them automatically the next time you select that deck.
Translation mode
Translation mode is the default. flangu translates the front text automatically.
- Tap the front panel and type the word or phrase you want to learn.
- Tap Translate.
flangu translates the text and fills in the back panel. The card is saved immediately once the translation arrives. A "Flashcard created" confirmation appears at the bottom of the screen.
A moment later, linguistic metadata (synonyms, definitions, example sentences, pronunciations, and alternative translations) is attached to the card in the background. You do not need to do anything. The metadata appears silently; the card is fully usable before it arrives.
Note
Translation mode requires an internet connection. If you are offline, the toggle switches to Manual automatically and a message explains why.
The alternative translation picker
After translation, the back panel shows the primary translation. If it is not the right word for your purpose, you can swap it before the card is finalized.
The back panel displays a list of alternative translations below the primary one. Tap any alternative to replace the back text with it.
When you select an alternative, flangu re-fetches the linguistic metadata for the new translation pair. The synonyms, definitions, examples, and pronunciations are regenerated to match the word you actually chose. The card's back is updated in place.
This picker is available immediately after translation, before you navigate away. It is not available from the card edit screen later.
Manual mode
In Manual mode, you fill in both sides yourself.
Tap the mode toggle in the bottom toolbar to switch to Manual.
- Tap the front panel and type the word.
- Tap the back panel and type the translation.
- Tap Create.
The card is saved immediately. No translation step occurs. Linguistic metadata is not generated automatically for manual cards.
Note
Manual cards are saved with both sides exactly as you typed them. If you want linguistic metadata added later, you can request it from the card detail screen.
Whether a card was created manually or via translation, every field on it can be changed afterward. See Editing a flashcard for what's editable and how.
After the card is saved
"Flashcard created" confirmation
A snackbar appears at the bottom of the screen confirming the card was saved. It includes an Undo button.
Tapping Undo soft-deletes the card. The card is removed from the deck and the review queue immediately. You can still access it through Translation History (described below) and restore it from there.
The snackbar dismisses on its own after a few seconds.
Duplicate detection
flangu checks whether the same front-and-back combination already exists in the same deck. If a duplicate is found, the "Flashcard created" confirmation is replaced by a warning: "Flashcard already exists in this deck."
Three options appear:

| Keep Both | Keeps both cards in the deck. |
Duplicates are detected per deck. The same card can exist in two different decks without triggering a warning.
Translation History
The 
history icon in the bottom toolbar opens Translation History: a list of all cards sorted by creation date, most recent first, grouped by Today, Yesterday, and earlier dates.
Cards created during the current session are highlighted with a NEW badge until you open the history panel.
From Translation History you can tap any card to open its detail page, edit it, or delete it.
Starting the next card
Tap New Card to clear both panels and start again. The deck and language settings are preserved.
