Profile and languages

How to edit your display name, native and learning languages, and timezone in Settings, and exactly what each one affects in flangu.

On this page

The General section of the Settings screen holds four items: your display name, your native language, your learning language, and your timezone. This article covers what each one changes, and where the language fields stop having an effect.

Name

profile icon Name opens a sheet with a single text field, pre-filled with your current name. Enter up to 20 characters and tap Save.

Save stays disabled until the name is both non-blank and different from your current one. This is a display name only: it's separate from your account email and isn't used to log in.

Native language

flag checkered icon Native language opens a searchable list of languages.

Setting it does two things:

  • It becomes the default front language for any deck you create afterward.
  • It's the language flangu treats as "yours" when a deck's Review Mode is set to Native on front or Native on back, deciding which side of the card your native language appears on. See Deck settings for what those modes actually do.

Learning language

flag icon Learning language opens the same searchable list, used to set the language you're studying.

Setting it becomes the default back language for any deck you create afterward. Unlike native language, it has no effect on Review Mode: only your native language decides orientation there.

Note

Both language fields only set defaults for new decks. Existing decks keep whatever language pair they were created with, so changing either setting here doesn't touch cards or decks you already have. To change a deck's languages, edit that deck directly.

Timezone

globe icon Timezone opens a searchable list of IANA timezones, pre-filled with your currently saved timezone.

Tap Auto-Detect Location to set it to your device's current timezone, or search for and select a different one manually. Save stays disabled until you pick a value that differs from what's already saved.

This timezone decides your day boundary: when a card becomes due, and when a day counts toward your streak. See Activity, streaks, and forecast for how that boundary is used.
